Three times a
year
join us
for fun-filled and character building overnight trips to some memorable
locales. This is a terrific opportunity for fathers and their boys to
spend a great weekend together along with old and new friends. In the
past we have visited the US Military Academy at West Point and
slept under the stars at Camp Frederick. We've also conquered Mt.
Monadnock, staked out the High Cabin for an overnight on Mt.
Cardigan, and rafted down the
Wood River with our fishing poles. In a past September we had a
great time overnight on the USS Massachusetts, and of course
the
highlight of every year is our Winter Madness trip to Wynnview in
Vermont.
UPDATE
January 27-29, 2006
We had another
action
packed
weekend in Randolph, VT! The action began
with a caravan leaving Mathewson House for Wynnview on Friday
evening. After a snack and bonfire, everyone claimed bunks in
either the Barn or the Main House and fell asleep dreaming of the next
day's fun. After a quick breakfast and Mass at Sts. Donation and
Rogation, we headed over to the VTC gym for some basketball and
swimming, followed by a hearty brunch at the VTC cafeteria. After
that was our annual sledding festival at "Weeping Mother
Mountain". We had great conditions on the mountain this
year! Next up, we broke into two groups for a pair of sleigh
rides through the beautiful Vermont countryside. This was our
first daylight sleigh ride ever, and it was a blast!
Late that afternoon we returned to VTC for a hearty dinner, including plenty of Ben and Jerry's ice cream, and then settled back into our home base at Wynnview. After dark, we built a fire, played some chess and Stratego, and laughed about the day's adventures. Most of us were bone tired and ready for bed our traditional Rosary around the fire. The next morning after Mass we all headed back to Rhode Island, a little stiff but happy and owners of some great new memories..
